Adding a child profile
Last updated 4/22/2026
Each child on RocketPhonics has their own profile. That's what keeps their progress separate from siblings, adjusts the difficulty to their level, and lets us send you a personalized weekly digest.
Step-by-step
- Sign in at rocketphonics.com/login and open the parent portal.
- Click Kids in the sidebar, then Add a child.
- Fill in the form:
- First name (this is what the app will call them)
- Age (we use this to decide the starting difficulty)
- Avatar (optional — pick a character or upload a photo)
- Tap Save. The profile appears instantly and is ready to play.
That's it. The next time your child opens the app, their avatar shows up on the home screen.
Choosing an age
We ask for age so the app places your child at a sensible starting point. Here's the rough mapping:
- Ages 4–5 → start at Chapter 1 (Meet Rob and Champ). Focus: letter sounds.
- Ages 5–6 → still Chapter 1 but the pacing is slightly quicker. If they already know most letters, they'll skim the first few lessons.
- Ages 6–7 → start at Chapter 2 (word building) and move faster through blending.
- Ages 7+ → start at Chapter 3. Good fit for a child who can already read simple words but needs more fluency practice.
You can override the starting chapter anytime from the child's settings page.
Multi-child tips
- Don't share one profile. Progress tracking, adaptive difficulty, and the weekly report all depend on a per-child profile.
- Use recognizable avatars. Kids switch between profiles by tapping their avatar, so make sure each child's icon is instantly their own.
- Set a household screen-time goal instead of a per-child one. One family we heard from set a "20-minute rule after breakfast." Consistent beats long.
- Celebrate milestones out loud. The parent portal will tell you when a child finishes a chapter — read that out at dinner. Big boost to motivation.
Editing or removing a profile
From Kids, click any child's name. You can update their avatar, change their age, or remove the profile entirely. Removing a profile soft-deletes their progress — we keep it for 30 days in case you change your mind, then permanently delete it.
